Student Assessments
As a district with a commitment to continuous improvement, the Kimberly Area School District regularly measures student learning. In addition to classroom assessments, a combination of state and district assessments provides information that helps district teachers and administrators monitor both student learning and district improvement efforts. For the 2021-2022 school year, the following state and district assessments will be administered during the time frames indicated. Each school determines its own testing schedule within the specified window for each assessment.

- Grades: Pre K - Grade 2
- Content: Early literacy skills and fundamentals
- Purpose: Assess reading readiness
- When Administered:
- Fall – Grade 5K: October 30 - November 16, 2023
Grade 1: September 25 - October 12, 2023 - Midyear – 4K: January 2 - 18, 2024
- Spring 4K-1: April 22 - May 3, 2024
- Students who enroll in the district after the screening window may be screened after arrival.
- Fall – Grade 5K: October 30 - November 16, 2023
- Results Reported: Parents receive a copy of student results after their initial screening is completed.
- Additional Details:
- Wisconsin requires districts to screen students for early reading readiness. KASD uses the Measures with Academic Progress(MAP) Fluency Screener as its early literacy screener for grades 4K-2.
- Students in grades 4K-1 are screened by their classroom teacher. The amount of time needed for screening varies by grade level and by student given the individualized nature of the screening tool.
- After initial screening, students in grades 4K-1 may be re-screened to monitor their progress at other times during the school year.

- Content:
- English Language Arts Grades 3 – 8
- Math Grades 3 – 8
- Science Grades 4 and 8
- Social Studies Grades 4, 8 and 10
- Purpose: Determine grade level proficiency
- When Administered: grades 3-8: March 18-April 28, 2024
grade 10: April 9, 2024 - Results Reported: Parents receive a copy of student results, usually in late summer.
- Additional Details: The Forward Exam is an untimed assessment. The amount of time needed varies by grade level based on the number of subjects tested. The estimated testing time per grade (for all subjects):
- Gr. 3: 3 – 4 hours
- Gr. 4: 5 – 7 hours
- Gr. 5: 3 – 4 hours
- Gr. 6: 3 – 4 hours
- Gr. 7: 3 – 4 hours
- Gr. 8: 6 – 7.5 hours
- Gr. 10: 1 – 2 hours
- Information for families about the Wisconsin Forward Exam.

- Pre ACT Secure is a timed test. Total testing time is 2 hours, 35 minutes.

- ACT is a timed test. Total test time is approximately 3.5 hours.

- Grades: 3-11 (For students with significant disabilities)
- Content:
- English Language Arts (Grades 3 – 11)
- Math (Grades 3 – 11)
- Science (Grades 4, 8 – 11)
- Social Studies (Grades 4, 8, 10)
- Purpose: Determine grade level proficiency as it relates to the Wisconsin Essential Elements
- When Administered: March 18 - April 26, 2024
- Results Reported: Parents receive a copy of student results, usually in late summer.
- Additional Details:
- Students with significant disabilities take the DLM assessment in place of the Forward Exam and ACT assessments.
- The DLM is untimed and the amount of time needed for student testing varies considerably by grade level based on the number of subjects tested and student needs.

- Grades: K-12 (For English Language learners)
- Content:
- Listening
- Speaking
- Reading
- Writing
- Purpose: Determine English language proficiency and progress toward full proficiency
- When Administered: December 1, 2023 - January 26, 2024
- Results Reported: Parents receive a copy of student results, usually in late May or early June.
- Additional Details:
- English language learners participate in ACCESS in addition to the other state assessments at their grade level.
- Kindergarten assessment takes an average of 45 minutes.
- For grades 1-12, the total testing time is a little more than 3.5 hours.
- Information for families about ACCESS.
- Source of Requirement: State Required Assessment
- Grade(s): 9-12 (Students can take the test in any of these grades)
- Content: Basic U.S. civics, history and geography
- Purpose: State mandated graduation requirement
- When Administered: Students have the opportunity to complete the Civics test through their required social studies classes. Other test opportunities are also provided.
- Results Reported: Students are informed of score immediately upon completion.
- Additional Details:
- Students must answer at least 65 questions correctly to earn a passing score.
- Students may retake the test as many times as needed to earn a passing score.
- The test is untimed and completion time varies by student.
- The Civics Exam consists of 100 questions. The questions are the same as those used on the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Naturalization Test.

- Source of Requirement: State Required Assessment (Graduation requirement)
- Grades: 2-10
- Content:

- Purpose: Determine growth in subject area
- When Administered:
- Fall: September 11 - 16, 2023
- Winter: January 2 - February 3, 2024
- Spring: May 1-May 24, 2024
- Results Reported: Parents receive a copy of student results in early June
- Additional Details:
- MAP tests are untimed and testing time can vary considerably by student. Typical testing time is 1 hour per subject tested.
