KHS Career Planning in 12th Grade
What does Career Planning look like in 12th grade?
During their senior year, students will execute their plan. Whether it is preparing for interviews, completing college applications, or meeting with a recruiter; our students will be ready. As they progress along their career path, we encourage our students to continually reflect, study and refine their plan as needed.

Below you will find the Career Planning experiences for students in 12th grade.
Click on each experience to learn more about what students will learn, who will be teaching it and how parents can support their learning at home.
- Students will continue to develop and update their "My KHS Story" while at KHS.
- Students will utilize their "My KHS Story" as they begin carrying out their post-secondary plan. (ie. letters of recommendation, resumes).
- Career Planning Advisors and School Counselors will guide students to regularly update their "My KHS Story".
- Career Planning Advisors and School Counselors will guide students to use their "My KHS Story" as a tool to support their furture path.
- Parents can talk to their student about:
- Their plans for the future
- Review their "My KHS Story"
- Their experiences, classes, clubs, extra-curriculars they are involved in.
- Students will select, from a variety of topics, speakers who will help them explore and enhance their post-secondary plan.
- Career Planning Advisors will help guide students to select topics that are helpful and beneficial for their own individual post-secondary path.
- Parents can talk to their student about:
- Their plans for the future
- The information they learned from their breakout sessions.
- Students will self-assess by using the Actionable Plan Student Metrics to reflect on their growth and progress toward their desired post-secondary plan.
- Career Planning Advisors will facilitate a conversation by guiding students to self-assess by using the Actionable Plan Student Metrics.
- Parents can talk with your student about:
- Their plans for the future.
- Help them fill in some gaps where they may have not considered all options.
- Challenge them in their thinking to make sure they have fully explored and researched potential career options.
- Students will select a checklist that is relevant to their post-secondary choice. Students will work their way through the list to ensure all requirements are met for their choice.
- Actionable Plan checklists:
- Career Planning Advisors will check in with students on the various steps students need to complete for their post-secondary choices.
- School Counselors will check in with students and support them with resources as they begin to execute their post-secondary plan. Such steps may include:
- Mock interviews
- Resume writing
- Essay writing
- Application completion
- Identifying support network at next level
- Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) assistance
- Other, as needed
- Parents can review the checklist with their student and ask questions about completion and status.
