Thank you to Professor Michael Leckrone, University of Wisconsin-Madison Band Director, for visiting with our two Kimberly High School Pep Bands!
He was welcomed to the school with a drum line. Then the pep band students performed several songs for Leckrone.
Students were then able to ask him questions. He talked about careers in music, the importance of being open to new types of music, finding joy in music and how he believes in trying to be better than you think you can be.
He shared some memories from the last 50 years of teaching band at UW-Madison, including his spectacular concert entrances such as arriving on a giant piece of cheese, sliding down a multi-story firefighter's pole and being suspended in the air on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
It was a great student learning experience with a Wisconsin music legend!
