Kimberly High School Hires Jon Murphy as Varsity Boys Basketball Coach

Kimberly, Wis. – April 29, 2021 – The Kimberly Area School District is pleased to announce that Jon Murphy has been named head basketball coach at Kimberly High School. Murphy joins the Papermakers following the retirement of Lucky Wurtz after 13 seasons.

"His passion for kids and for the game of basketball, along with his drive, work ethic and vision, makes him a great fit,” said Athletic Director Ryan McGinnis.

Murphy holds a Masters of Education with an emphasis in curriculum and instruction. He spent 33 seasons as the head men’s basketball coach at Seymour High School. He led his team to the WIAA state tournament 12 times, winning three state titles in 1997, 2001 and 2006. With a career record of 615-185, Murphy is only one of six high school coaches in state history with 600 or more victories and was inducted into the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame in 2017.

“I’m genuinely excited about the opportunity and a new beginning and look forward to becoming a part of the Kimberly community,” said Jon Murphy.

Murphy joins the Papermakers, who were WIAA D1 State Runner-ups last year 17-1 last season in the Fox Valley Association sharing the league title with Neenah. Kimberly has won or shared four Fox Valley Association championships – all in the last seven seasons and were the WIAA D1 State Runner-up last season.
