Coding Pathways That Power the Future

KHS Student in AP Computer Science

Among the many opportunities our students can explore, the Computer Science program stands out for the way it takes learning beyond the classroom and into the real world. Through coding, problem-solving, and innovation, students develop the skills and confidence to shape the technologies of tomorrow.

What makes this program unique is its hands-on approach. Students design apps, build websites, program robots, and tackle real-world challenges using industry-standard tools. Through team projects and independent work, they build not only technical skills but also creativity, collaboration, and confidence.

A great example of what our students are accomplishing can be seen in an app developed last school year by one of our students to support a local maple syrup producer. The student created a custom application that provided valuable insights—such as which trees were producing more syrup and other key data points—helping the producer make smarter, data-driven decisions. This project highlights how students are using technology to make a real impact in their communities.

The program also provides a head start for college and careers. Students can earn college credit through AP Computer Science Principles and AP Computer Science A, along with the industry-recognized TestOut PC Pro certification. These credentials, combined with coding experience in Java, Python, and JavaScript, set them apart in an increasingly tech-driven world.

Graduates of the program have earned awards like the Aspirations in Computing Award and Samsung Solve for Tomorrow, landed internships, and gone on to major in Computer Science or Engineering. Many discovered their passion for technology right here at Kimberly, often starting with curiosity and leaving with a clear career direction.

The Computer Science program welcomes all students, offering a supportive space to explore tech and problem-solving, especially encouraging female participation through partnerships with Women in Technology. With creativity, coding, and collaboration at its core, this program helps students build the future—one line of code at a time.
