Meet Your School Counselor: Mrs. Karen Dietzler

Hi!  My name is Karen Dietzler and I am so happy to be the school counselor at Mapleview Intermediate.  I absolutely love being at Mapleview and love working with students in fifth and sixth grade.  Students at this age are going through many changes...physically, emotionally and socially, to name a few.  Working alongside students as they navigate their way through these changes and challenges has always been something I have enjoyed.  My goal is to help the students at Mapleview feel safe, supported and successful.

Background:
My school counselor career started in 2005 at Sunrise Elementary.  The following year, Mapleview opened as an intermediate school and I moved in with it!  Prior to my school counseling days, I had earned my BA in Social Work from UW Whitewater and began working with youth at Family Services.  I was working in the schools a good amount of the time and loved it, which pathed my way to go back to school to earn an MS in Educational Psychology - School Counseling from UW-Milwaukee.

Personal:
I am married and have the joy of raising two sons and a daughter.  I enjoy the outdoors, going for walks, camping, traveling, watching my children in all of their activities, reading and working on puzzles.  Our family of five always seems to be on the go!   Thanks for getting to know me a little!  I always look forward to getting to know and work with the students and families of Mapleview!

At Mapleview, all students are given opportunities for:

  • Career planning group conferencing (6th grade)
  • Classroom guidance lessons in all homerooms covering academic, social and career topics based on ASCA’s Mindsets & Behaviors.
  • Community mental health referral and resource information
  • Individual problem solving or skill building sessions
  • Small group counseling
  • Transition services between buildings

To obtain additional information about any of these services, please see my contact information listed above. You may also view our KASD School Counseling webpage, which provides information about our comprehensive school counseling program.
