Online Learning Frequently Asked Questions
Students should plan to work independently online daily for one hour per course, depending on the content and due dates. Students can choose to complete the work outside of traditional school hours. Live online class sessions are dependent on the course. All teachers host office hours and are available during those times to support students.
Families are responsible for obtaining basic school supplies. Additionally, select electives may require the purchase of additional supplies or pick up of materials at their home school. Chromebooks are provided for all 5K-8th grade students. High school students provide their own devices, but the district will provide a chromebook if they are unable to.
Yes. Students will have some flexibility with daily schedules, but do need to meet the deadlines and due dates set by the teacher.
Students will continue to have access to counseling services at both JRG and KHS.
Both Advanced Placement (AP) and Honor classes are available online. Cooperative Academic Partnership Program (CAPP) courses are not available online.
High school athletes who are considering playing athletics in college should visit the NCAA Website to review how online programming may impact eligibility.
In some instances courses will be taught by KASD staff, however, many courses will be taught by a statewide teacher. Statewide teachers are part of the WEN consortium and not KASD staff.
Changes will only be allowed at the semester. The district reserves the right to move students back to in person learning if the student is not meeting expectations for attendance and/or assignment completion.
Yes. Attendance for online courses is REQUIRED by state law. Students must follow the minimum online attendance requirement per course. Attendance is based on the following: tracked login time, successful assignment completion/submission, required participation in course activities, and communication with the teacher.
The majority of the curriculum is text-based instruction, which can be accessed via the learning platform Buzz®. The frequency of live lessons is course-dependent and are recorded for the student to access. Live lessons in real-time learning will be implemented through the use of Google Meets.
